Brief presentation

This MSc is offered by the Department of Computer Science, in cooperation with the Department of Economics and Management of the University of Pisa, to prepare professionals with an interdisciplinary skill both in informatics and in business, in order to satisfy the increasing demand by companies which aim to compete using analytics methods. The Programme is focused on Business Intelligence applications to support decision-making. This vision is supported by close connections with the research topics carried out by researchers of both departments in areas such as: data warehouse, data mining, marketing, business information systems.

Programme Overview

The Programme offers a wide range of courses taught in English, including at least 42 ECTS credits for mandatory courses.

The study program depends on the applicant’s BSc area, but in all cases it will have at least 48 ECTS credits of Informatics, with 36 in the field of the fundamentals of Business Intelligence.

The final thesis may be associated with an internship in public or private companies.

Professional perspectives

Surveys of national and international organizations have revealed a demand for graduates with skills in Business Informatics in order to develop applications to support decision-making.

Our graduates will have the skills necessary to access more advanced levels of university education, such as the PhD in Computer Science at the University of Pisa, and then pursue an academic career or other innovative professional activities characterized by a strong research content.

Admission

Admission to the Master Programme in Business Informatics is a two-step process.

1. The Candidate must first apply for admission. The application is evaluated by the Degree Programme Admissions Committee, which assesses the eligibility of applicants on the basis of their previous academic careers.

2. Upon successful admission, the applicant enrolls in the Programme, following standard procedures of enrolment at the University of Pisa available at http://matricolandosi.unipi.it/index.php?page=default&id=35&lang=it

Requirements for Admission

Applicants must hold a first cycle degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or a degree comprising at least 40 ECTS credits in the following areas: Management, Economics, Informatics, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics.

In the case of other degrees, or academic qualifications obtained abroad, exceptions may be made only with a resolution of the Degree Programme Admissions Committee, on the basis of the specific background of the candidate.

In order to gain admission to the Programme, the candidate must exhibit the necessary qualifications, as well as an adequate command of the English language.
